NHS Property Services turns old school in health and wellbeing centre

NHS Property Services is undertaking a £3.1m redevelopment programme at the former Temple School in Strood to construct a new children and young people’s health and wellbeing centre.
The existing school building is to be significantly refurbished to provide modern, spacious clinical facilities to include a speech and language therapy suite, consulting rooms, nursery, soft play and sensory facilities, physiotherapy suites, occupational therapy rooms and observation areas in addition to office space for clinical staff.

Once completed the new centre will deliver specialist clinical services for children with a range of disabilities living in the Medway area.
The redevelopment is part of NHS Property Services’ construction programme which looks to invest vital funds into the NHS estate.
Catherine Webster, Senior Construction Manager at NHS Property Services, says: “This project will reunite the delivery of specialist clinical services for children and young people with a range of disabilities into a dedicated building. We are working closely with our partners to develop the new centre to ensure the new environment benefits their patients, families, carers and staff. This is just one example of the construction projects that form part of our strategy to bring primary care facilities back to use in the local community.”

The centre is being developed in partnership with MedwayCCG, Medway Council and Medway Foundation NHS Trust.
NHS Property Services has recently completed the £2.5 million relocation of a GP surgery to a newly refurbished facility at William Cotton Place in addition to a £2 million construction project to create new clinical hubs for musculoskeletal clinical services at Horsham Hospital.
NHS Property Services’ construction projects are designed to bring wide-ranging benefits for their customers and patients. From flagship schemes such as new hospitals and health centres to refurbishments and upgrades, NHSPS is working with customers across England to provide improved and affordable healthcare locations, aligned to evolving clinical service and local health economy needs.
