BD aims to aid NHS sustainability

Becton,Dickinson and Company have put into production a syringe, designated for general medication preparation and delivery, which has been designed to reduce medical waste in healthcare facilities.

The BD Emerald Syringe is manufactured using sustainable manufacturing practices, including the use of renewable electricity, at a BD facility in Spain, and uses less material in the manufacturing process.  BD said that this will, in turn, help hospitals to reduce their medical waste in line with NHS carbon footprint targets.

Roland Goette, BD Medical vice president and general manager of medical surgical systems for Western Europe, said: “BD recognises that human health and a healthy environment are inseparable and we are committed to responsible environmental stewardship in our business conduct.

“The BD Emerald Syringe meets our highest standards for product quality while also reducing environmental impact by using less material and sustainable operations practices.”

The company said that the product line builds upon its sustainability commitment, which has been recognised for achievements in environmental stewardship.
