Carillion to build new hospital in Liverpool

Carillion has been awarded the contract to build the new £429m Royal Liverpool Hospital, which will be located adjacent to the current hospital building and facing the same direction, the Liverpool Daily Post reports

The new venue, which is expected to open to patients in 2017, has caused a stir after its Trusts trust announced that about £211m of the funding would come via a PFIscheme that campaigners had voiced extreme concern about.

The £429 total cost of the project consists of the cost of the £335m build, landscaping, demolishing the current hospital and other associated costs such as car parks and equipment.

The Trust said the annual payment made to their private sector partner will be less than 6% – said to be one of the lowest in the NHS.
