Contract extension for G4S FM in Sunderland

G4S Facilities Management (G4S FM) has announced its cleaning contract at Sunderland Royal Hospital has been extended for a further three years and new services have been added as the company takes on the delivery of ward hostess services at the 970 bed healthcare site.

The cleaning contract, which has been in place since 2011, is worth £3.5m per annum. It will be boosted by an extra £600k per annum following the addition of the ward hostess service. Around 60 staff from City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust are expected to TUPE across to G4S as a result of the ward hostess service, bringing the total number of G4S FM staff on site to over 300.

A spokesperson for City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, says: “This is another key stage in the development of the partnership approach, to maximise the expertise and experience of a partner such as G4S, which will be reflected by an enhanced service to our patients and staff alike.”

G4S FM has a strong portfolio of contracts within the healthcare business in the UK, delivering facilities management services direct to its customers. The company currently has contracts with 24 acute hospitals with over 7,000 patient beds and employs more than 7,200 staff.
