Demand for NHS IT contractors at historical high

Demand for IT contractors from the NHS climbed in January to a historical high, Contractor UK reports.

It said that the rise, which comes ahead of a “radical transformation of how the National Health Service operates”, was noted in IT recruiter max20’s announcement that it had placed more than 50 contractors in the four weeks from December 2012, compared with 100 over the first quarter of the year.

This is due to the imminent replacement of Primary Care Trusts and Strategic Health Authorities in England with Clinical Commissioning Groups and Commissioning Support Units, the company said.

Max20 managing director Don Tomlinson said the hiring surge began in the autumn and has gathered pace ever since, setting the pace for “a hectic couple months ahead as we try and source the right skills and experience…We are going into uncharted waters recruitment-wise. We don’t know when demand will settle down."
