Fiftieth Costa franchise store opens in Moorfields Eye Hospital

Costa celebrated the opening of its 50th corporate franchise store on 10th October - located in London’s Moorfields Eye Hospital - with a blue ribbon event which also marked World Sight Day. The day’s takings would be donated to Moorfields Eye Charity, it said.

The UK’s largest coffee shop brand is partnered in the venture by Compass Group UK & Ireland; the partnership between Costa and Compass started in 2008, when the first full store opened at Ealing Hospital. A steady one store per month has been opened since then, as the partnership has gone from strength to strength and continued to build on the ever increasing consumer demand for quality branded coffee.

The Costa brand has proved successful across Compass’ diverse client portfolio with the Costa franchise store proving an extremely successful model with both Compass’ healthcare and higher education clients. Within the healthcare market the milestone is also representative of a growing trend for providing visitors, staff and patients with a retail brand that they know and love.

To further cement the partnership and showcase how well the franchise stores have performed, last year saw barista Laska Goldsack, from Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, Portsmouth, win the coveted title of Costa Enterprises Barista of the Year. The competition tests baristas on their ability to produce a technically perfect cup of hand-made coffee and their knowledge and understanding of the industry, and to win demonstrates both the skill and passion required to deliver the high standards of service and coffee expected at a Costa store.
