Hunt: Cut bureaucracy in the NHS

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt says he intends to cut bureaucracy in the NHS by a third, to help bring back care and compassion to the service, itv News reports.

His announcement follows the report on the Francis Inquiry into Mid Staffs Hospital. Hunt claims that red tape gets in the way of providing care to patients and he cited examples where administrative tasks obstruct clinicalstaff from their primary job of care giving.

Hi statement is backed by information from the Royal College of Nursing, which highlights the fact that nurses spend more than a million hours every week on paperwork – time that could have been better spent delivering care to patients.
