Sodexo to serve Southwest Pathology Services

Sodexo has formed a consortium with two southwest hospitals to provide pathology services for the NHS, in a deal valued at £300m, the FT reports.

About 160 NHS staff have been outsourced to Southwest Pathology Services – which has opened a new highly-automated laboratory to provide blood tests and other pathology services to the two hospitals on a 20-year contract worth £300m.

Sodexo Healthcare managing director Simon Scrivens told FT he hoped the consortium deal could be used as a model for other NHS services from administration to radiology. The trusts own 67% of the company, while Sodexo owns the remaining share through its joint venture with Labco.
