Tougher inspections for NHS

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has announced that future inspections will put NHS and independent acute hospitals under far greater scrutiny, the FT reports. These inspections will extend to cover mental health and learning disability services after they have been established in acute care.

The CQC says that under the new regime, inspections may last 20 days or longer, with themajority of visits being unannounced. It has invited comment on how the inspection regime should be put into action and says that people who use services, including whistleblowers, will be central to deciding where inspections take place.
