Welcome to the new HEFMA Coaching and Mentoring webpages. We have created this section of the HEFMA website to help guide you through the simple registration process, whether you are looking to be a coach or mentor or you are looking for someone to be your coach or mentor.


How could a coach or mentor help me?

You might be looking for some support with career planning, personal development, business performance, managing complex change or relationships, leadership or technical skills for example. While the techniques used are different, what is key is the development of the relationships between both parties.

Many coaches and mentors will be able to support you with a wide range of topics and subject areas. Determining these specialisms as well as identifying a good ‘match’ with your coach or mentor is a key first step in agreeing the boundaries for the coaching / mentoring relationship.

When is a coaching or mentoring relationship not appropriate?

A coach or mentor should NOT replace line management. Coaching and mentoring interventions are generally concerned with the practical issues of setting goals, skills development and achieving results within specific time-scales. Coaching is not designed to seek to resolve an individual’s deeper underlying issues that are the cause of serious problems like poor motivation, low self-esteem and poor job performance.

Coaching and mentoring is generally commenced on the premise that individuals are self-aware and have selected coaching or mentoring because they do not require a therapeutic intervention such as counselling.
