The inspection visits took place on July 27-29, August 3 & 4, and September 7-9, 2021.

This was an unannounced inspection of the following acute services provided by the Trust:

• Urgent and emergency care at Southend Hospital

• Medicine at Basildon University Hospital

• Maternity services at Basildon University Hospital, Broomfield Hospital and Southend University Hospital

• Surgery at Basildon University Hospital, Broomfield Hospital and Southend University Hospital.

All eight services inspected were rated as requires improvement, as was the Trust leadership overall.
