The inspection visit took place between September 28 and October 4, 2021.

This was an unannounced, focused inspection of maternity services provided by the University Hospitals Sussex following the receipt of information of concern about the safety and quality of the service. The information came from several sources, including staff whistleblowing, patient complaints and other regulatory bodies. The rating of maternity services went down, with safe rated as requires improvement and well-led as inadequate. The inspection did not change the ratings of the site overall.
