The inspection visit took place from September 28 - October 4, 2021.

This was an unannounced, focused inspection of maternity services provided by the University Hospitals Sussex following the receipt of information of concern about the safety and quality of the service. The information came from several sources, including staff whistleblowing, patient complaints and other regulatory bodies. The rating of maternity services went down, with safe and well-led rated as requires improvement. The inspection did not change the ratings of the site overall, which remains as outstanding.
