This inspection of the urgent and emergency services took place on August 24-25, 2020 as a follow-up to a warning notice issued in March. On this visit, the inspectors noted improvements across the key areas of nurse staffing levels, safeguarding training, governance systems and management of risk.
Areas for improvement still:
Reduce reliance on agency staff
Ensure every shift in the paediatric ED has two registered children’s nurses
Continue to embed the patient safety checklist into ED processes
Ensure role specific training is completed for appropriate staff with competency sign-off
Ensure the momentum of change is embedded in the department
Ensure all staff are fully engaged in departmental change.
