The shortlists for the National MyPorter and MyCleaning Awards, celebrating the unsung heroes of healthcare – porters and domestic service professionals – have been announced.

The awards are organised by GV Healthcare in association with NHS England (NHSE) and supported by Gold sponsors, ISS and Medirest. This year saw an impressive total of nearly 500 entries, marking the biggest and most competitive year yet.

Returning judges, Phil Shelley and Emma Brookes joined forces with NHSE colleagues Fay Lane and Sheila Connolly, and representatives from GV Healthcare, to carefully review the entries.
Phil Shelley says: “The sheer number of entries that we have read shows how many people within healthcare want to give that higher praise and recognition to their fellow colleagues, who are deserving of seeing their efforts congratulated. So many incredible award applications helps us understand the professionalism within our teams, balanced with a personal approach, emphasising the importance of our services. It makes me proud to be a part of these awards.”

Announcing the winners

Scheduled for late February, the awards ceremonies will span two consecutive days, celebrating the healthcare professionals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment.

• Day One, the National MyCleaning Awards, will be dedicated to Healthcare Cleaners, Domestic teams, and Auditors for their crucial role in maintaining a clean and safe hospital environment.

• Day Two, the National MyPorter Awards will recognise the exemplary work of the portering services within healthcare.

Adding to the excitement, each day will start with a conference featuring insightful talks on the latest innovations and challenges within healthcare cleaning and portering. Presented by representatives from NHSE and NHS Trusts, alongside industry experts, the conferences will also include interactive workshops and a live panel, giving guests the opportunity to ask questions from the floor.

Highlights will include an update from Phil on the forthcoming Portering Standards, an exclusive first look at NHSE’s new Soft FM uniform, and Delia Cannings will deliver her impactful talk, ‘The Power of Effective Auditing’.

Kay Mulcahy, Associate Director of National Estates Operations (Hard and Soft FM) at NHS England, adds: “At NHS England, we’re proud of our involvement in these prestigious awards. It’s great to be able to have ceremonies like this that recognise the true strength and greatness that come from within our hospital environments. I look forward to meeting the winners and hearing their great stories of achievement at the live events, where together we can celebrate the successes of those deserving of such recognition”.

The winners will be announced at the live MyCleaning Awards on February 25, and the MyPorter Awards on February 26.

Congratulations to all the remarkable individuals and teams who have been shortlisted.
