HEFMA is delighted to announce that Human Resources (HR) expert, Dean Royles, has been confirmed as the Host for the 2019 Leadership Forum (May 16-17 at Doncaster Racecourse).
Dean has been a highly regarded and leading figure in HR within the NHS for nearly two decades. He now provides strategic advice and leadership development to organisations and boards.
Dean has an MSc in Human Resources and is a member of Sheffield Business School’s Advisory Board as well as a visiting fellow at Newcastle Business School. He is a former National Chair of the Board of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and was awarded Companionship of the CIPD in 2015. He has an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Bradford for his contribution to health services management.
A former Chief Executive of NHS Employers, Dean joined Leeds Teaching Hospitals in 2014 as Executive Director of HR and OD. Leeds is one of the largest Trusts in the country employing over 18,000 staff. Other notable positions have included Director of Workforce and Education at NHS North West and Deputy Director of Workforce for the NHS at the Department of Health.
Dean told us: “During my time with the NHS I had some close working relationships with colleagues from Estates and Facilities. I know these are some of the most demanding jobs and they are crucial to the efficient and safe running of the NHS. I also know that the professionals working in Estates and Facilities are often under appreciated. So for me it’s great to be involved in the 2019 HEFMA Forum to help promote the great work that goes on every day and to see people networking and sharing ideas.”
Dean is President-Elect of the HPMA (Healthcare People Management Association). He is also a regular conference speaker, has been published in a number of journals, sits on the editorial board of HRMJ (Human Resource Management Journal) and the International Journal of Human Resources Development, is a social media advocate and provides expert opinion in the national media.
Dean’s easy style, expertise and high-energy approach to HR ensured he was voted the UK’s Most Influential HR Practitioner three years running. His book, with Oxford University Press on Human Resource Management was published in February 2018.
