Bevan Brittan has joined forces with HEFMA to provide two bespoke training events during January and March 2019. Each of the two events consists of two full days of training by Bevan Brittan’s own legal experts. The training is entirely free to HEFMA members and will be delivered in the NHS Employers building in Leeds City Centre. It is essential that delegates attend both days of the training they enrol on to gain the intended benefits.

Legal Essentials for Aspiring NHS Estates Directors

Tuesday, January 15 and Tuesday, March 5, 2019

9-30 – 16.30 (9am registration)

The first event is aimed at senior E&F practitioners who are seeking to make the step into Associate Director or Board Director positions in the near future and who would need to gain a higher level of legal Estates knowledge to support that step. Whilst the content of the course is largely estate focused this knowledge is essential at that level regardless of your background discipline.

Course content:

• Statutory Compliance: Post Grenfell

• Board Governance Basics

• Managing Leasehold Estate

• Surplus Land Disposals

• The Legal Aspects of Delivering Capital Projects

• Revenue Generation

Legal Basics for NHS Estates & Facilities Management

Thursday, January 17 and Wednesday March 6, 2019

9.30 – 16.30 (9am registration)

This event is aimed at more junior E&F practitioners in the earlier stages of their careers or other services within the NHS, or coming into the NHS from other industry sectors. The training will give delegates a good basic understanding of the law related to property management, capital developments and health and safety obligations. Whilst there is a strong estates bias to this training it is open to all disciplines within E&F and would be essential to non-estates professionals seeking to change career path or advance their careers into more senior E&F management.

Course content:

• Who’s who? The structure of the NHS and what it means for Estates and Facilities.

• Introduction to HBN 00-08 – Estatecode

• Leaseholds and freeholds: the basics

• Understanding the planning process

• Developing new facilities

• Selling surplus land – understanding the process

• Health and safety – know your obligations
