In pursuit of a ‘safer’ digital future

A new briefing has been published by Digital ICS, which should help leaders of Integrated Care Systems (ICS) to ensure they are prepared for and able to respond to cyber threats.

‘Keeping your Integrated Care System safer from cyber attacks’ points out that there is no such thing as ‘safe’, only ‘safer’, when faced with organised criminal groups intent on finding and exploiting vulnerabilities and opportunities to disrupt services and hold the provider to ransom for access to data. It lists five top tips and a series of questions that leaders can use to help strengthen their organisation’s resistance to attack.

1. Understand that every board member and senior leader has a role in keeping your system safer

2. Invest time in understanding your supply chain

3. Share skills and expertise system-wide, share your assets system-wide

4. Challenge your system to share learning openly

5. Don’t underestimate the importance of building trusted relationships, support and collaboration.

The Digital ICS programme is a free offer designed to support all Integrated Care Board and Care System leaders to better harness digital transformation to enable delivery of system ambitions. It is commissioned by NHS England as part of the NHS Digital Academy, and delivered by NHS Providers in partnership with NHS Confederation and Public Digital.
