James Murray named new Health Secretary

On the day that the NHS celebrated achieving significant drops in waiting times and the number of patients on waiting lists, it also welcomed a new Health Secretary. Following the resignation of Wes Streeting, James Murray, Member of Parliament for Ealing North has been appointed as the new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

James Murray has served as an MP since 2019, and since September 1, 2025 he has held the position of Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Previous positions include Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and shadow Financial Secretary.  He served as the Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development from 2016 to 2019.

In a post on social media platform, X, James Murray said he was “deeply honoured” to have been appointed to his new role.
