The Hospital Caterers Association will announce the winners of its 2023 Awards on the evening of April 20 in Birmingham, during the National Leadership and Development Forum. As a mark of the close relationship between HEFMA and the HCA, HEFMA sponsors the Efficiency & Improvement Award. The nominees in each award category are:
 
Efficiency & Improvement Award
• Howard Cartledge / Louise Simpson: Head of Catering / Associate Director of Nursing, Estates, Facilities & Capital Development, Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust
• Duncan O’Neill: Catering Manager, Stepping Hill Hospital

• Clodagh Hastings: Assistant Support Service Manager, Gransha Hospital, Western Trust

There is no shortlist for the Special Recognition Award, Wilma Wilkie Award, Chairman’s Choice and Trade Stand awards, the winners will simply be announced on the night.
 
HCA 4 Nations Showcase
At the HCA 4 Nations Showcase event, held during the HRC event in London last week, James Dougan and Alan Dougan, representing NHS Scotland GG&C were awarded Gold and Best in Class. Also awarded Gold were Shelley Pearson-Smith and Erica Bell, winners of NHS Chef 2022, from Stockport NHS Foundation Trust; James Richardson and Joseph Hennigan, third-placed in NHS Chef 2022, from Solent NHS Trust; and Angela Dickson and Darren Taggart from Northern Health and Social Care Trust.
Shane O’Neil and Philip Rooney from South Eastern H&SC Trust and Kerrey Healey and Natasha Day from Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust were awarded Silver, and Les Beare and Joshua Banner, runners-up at NHS Chef 2022, were awarded Bronze.
