Global Digital Exemplars (GDE) are part of NHS England’s strategy to drive improvements in digital maturity across the NHS. GDE Blueprints are a collection of knowledge assets and associated methodology, which have been created by NHS Trusts and can be used as guides and tailored by other Trusts to suit their requirements.
The first batch of GDE Blueprints includes digital checks to prevent dementia and falls in older people, screening for sepsis, fast turnaround of pathology tests and barcode medication administration, whilst in the North East street triage teams with full access to electronic patient records are improving response to patients with possible mental health problems.
Matthew Swindells, Deputy Chief Executive of NHS England says: “Using straightforward technology to its fullest in the NHS will not only improve patient care and safety, but can also free up staff time.
“Some NHS hospitals are already making a huge difference to the care they offer through digital tools, and with these new blueprints it will now be easier than ever for other NHS organisations to learn from the best we have and improve care for their patients faster.”
Health Secretary, Matt Hancock adds: “These are fantastic examples of how modern technology has the potential to save lives – and I want to see more of this.”
