Reminder of fire safety consideration when increasing the estate capacity of existing areas

With NHS Trusts continuing to implement plans to support additional levels of patient care during the busy winter period, this document provides an important reminder of the legal duties around fire safety. It also includes some basic checks that should be made in order to mitigate any potential risks when making changes to the NHS estate to increase capacity and patient throughput. If you have any queries please e-mail: [email protected] marking for the attention of Mazin Daoud.

New National Standards for Healthcare Food and Drink

The new National Standards for Healthcare Food and Drink are available on the NHS England website. You can also read a summary in this short blog. Further information has been provided regarding support in fulfilling the new standards. This can be found on the NHS Estates Collaboration Hub.

The recording and supporting materials following the national webinar on November 24 can also be found on the NHS Estates Collaboration Hub.

Hospital Helipad Landing Sites: Data Collection

The short survey on Hospital Helipad Landing Sites (HHLSs) closed on November 30. A few NHS Trusts still need to complete the survey and we are following up with the E&F teams concerned. In the interim we would like to thank the many E&F teams which have completed the survey. We will start the analysis in the near future and will report back on the feedback and any other resulting actions in due course.

Technical Standards and Guidance Programme - update

Pre-engagement on HTM07-02 - EnCO2de is underway. You can get involved in this via the Regional Estates Delivery Hub leads/coordinators. Please see the NHS Estates Collaboration Hub for further details.

We are also currently finalising the technical engagement draft of HBN 00-03 (Clinical and Clinical Support Spaces). We are hoping to have this available for comment in the near future.

We will closing the technical engagement period on HBN 04-01 Supplement 1 - Special ventilated isolation facilities for patients in acute settings.

Technical engagement has recently finished for the following documents:

• HBN 03-01 Supplement 1 Medium & Low Secure mental health facilities - Adult,

• HBN 03-02 Supplement 1 Medium & Low Secure mental health facilities - Children & Young People

• HTM 06-02 Electrical safety guidance for low voltage systems.

We would like to thank those colleagues in E&F teams and the professional bodies and associations for their comments and feedback. These are currently being assessed and incorporated into the documents.

The next update of the Technical Standards and Engagement Digest will be available very soon from the NHS Estates Collaboration Hub. The Digest is a good source of further information on all documents being progressed in the Technical Standards and Guidance programme.

National Estates and Facilities Uniform Project - staff survey

NHS Supply Chain will soon be launching a survey to understand what uniform items NHS Estates and Facilities staff currently wear and which items they would like to wear in future as part of the National Estates and Facilities Uniform Project. They are particularly keen to get feedback from frontline staff who wear uniforms. The survey will be accessible online and via a QR code to enable easy completion on a smartphone. Please look out for the further information which is expected to be available very soon.
