The Wolfson Economics Prize 2021 - in conjunction with Policy Exchange - seeks hospital design and planning ideas to "radically improve" hospital care in the UK and around the world.

The 2021 prize question is: ‘How would you design and plan new hospitals to radically improve patient experiences, clinical outcomes, staff wellbeing, and integration with wider health and social care?”

Lord Wolfson says: "All too many hospitals are now outdated. Their design, facilities and technology simply no longer provide the best clinical care.

"We now have a generational opportunity to improve the provision of healthcare. There are a host of brilliant ideas waiting to improve every aspect of the modern-day hospital - the aesthetics, internal logistics, communication, technology, workflow, hygiene systems and more.

"We seek to establish a new benchmark for hospital design and style, drawing on innovation from around the world, to help create hospitals that work better for patients, their staff and the communities they serve.”

Entrants must explore this question in a submission of up to 10,000 words and may focus on one element of a hospital or the facility in its entirety. Points to address are: Patient experience; Clinical outcomes; Staff wellbeing and productivity; and Connection to the wider health and social care infrastructure.

Entries are now invited and will close at 5pm BST on June 18, 2021. Entry is free of charge and the prize for the winner is £250,000. The Finalists will be announced in July and the winner revealed at an awards ceremony in November.
