Sustainable Healthcare Dashboard to support key Long Term Plan targets

The Sustainable Development Unit (SDU) is creating a Sustainable Healthcare Dashboard for use by the system to see the opportunity and change that is required for the NHS to achieve the sustainability targets of the Long Term Plan. The Sustainable Health Dashboard is expected to go live during this month (May). 

 

The Dashboard should be used at all levels, and the data will be aggregated to support this; regionally by leadership in both NHS region and PHE centres, by STP leaders and by individual organisational level leaders. The dashboard outcomes should be used to support planning locally within STP level strategic planning and by organisations within their SDMP action plans. 

 

The Dashboard helps to identify good performance and highlight where there are opportunities for improvement, estimating the size of the opportunity to help organisations and geographies focus their efforts.

 

The opportunity savings are indicative based on comparing performance across other similar organisation by their type, with suggested upper bounds of what can be saved, with supporting resources explaining any limitations and considerations in interpreting the data. 

 

The indicators have been chosen to support change as detailed in the NHS Long Term Plan targets and objectives, showing that the system has a mandate and responsibility to act and drive improvement. 

 

Further support will be provided as the SDU is currently working with system leaders across health and care to write dashboard packs, which will help those who have identified opportunities for improvement. There will be a pack for each metric/data point that will help guide those who can improve, highlighting the tools and resources available, case studies from across the system, an indication of the conditions needed to make improvement possible and some suggested next steps shown from the case studies to be successful. These packs will be available in the next few months. 

 

The SDU is continuing to explore how to further embed this into other performance measurement processes across the NHS and health and care sector.
