The full programme for the 2019 HEFMA Leadership Forum is now available. The event takes place at Doncaster Racecourse on May 16 & 17 with a theme of ‘Future Models of Service Delivery’ and is hosted by the Trent Branch.
Throughout the programme speakers will hone in on topics that are of key importance and represent core challenges to today’s NHS estates and facilities (E&F) professionals.
The workforce – recruitment, retention and development - use of the estate, standards, managing space, training and an innovative project that may have widespread implications for improving patient care, including tackling malnutrition are all featured.
Getting the programme started on day one is a session entitled ‘Changing Mindsets’ led by Mark Bawden, a former performance psychologist and co-founder of Mindflick@.
Rob Webster will look at the role of the estate in health systems. Rob is the highly respected CEO of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, the lead Chief Executive for the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Integrated Care System and has also recently been named as one of 56 members of the NHS Assembly, which is charged with supporting delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan.
The NHS Improvement (NHSI) team, including Simon Corben, Director and Operational Lead, E&F, and Fiona Daly, National Sustainability and EFM Workforce Lead, will lead a keynote session providing an update on NHSI activities and programmes. This session will include an overview of the EFM workforce, national strategy, survey results, implementation plan and an update on the progress of the new cleaning standards.
A keynote session from Dr Kirsty Edmondson-Jones, Director of Estates and Facilities at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals will outline her ground-breaking research that aims to artificially entrain the body’s circadian rhythm as a technique to improve a range of health issues caused by its disruption.
The structure of the breakout sessions has been changed this year so that delegates don’t have to choose but are able to attend both. Paul Smith, Head of Asset Management at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, will outline the change journey that Rotherham has undergone to result in a fully agile and more efficient workforce.
Dr Paul Wyton, Principal Lecturer in Facilities Management and Faculty Lead for Higher Degree Apprenticeships at the Sheffield Business School will turn the attention of the Forum back to workforce development with a presentation focused on Higher Degree Apprenticeships in FM and Estates Management and the use of the apprenticeship levy.
Following on with the workforce theme, Kier Group’s Carmel Brennan will discuss recruitment and retention sharing insight of how Kier addresses strategic workforce challenges.
HEFMA National Chairman, Jonathan Stewart will also provide an update of the association’s activities and current workstreams.
The Forum will be introduced by Trent Branch Chair, Nick Phillips and Forum Chair, HR specialist and a former Chief Executive of NHS Employers, Dean Royles.
