TEWV Estates and Facilities Management (TEWV EFM) has stepped in to provide continuity of EFM services at Roseberry Park Hospital in Middlesbrough (Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust) following the collapse of the PFI provider, Three Valleys Healthcare (TVH).
EFM services, including estates maintenance, grounds and gardens, security, car parking and the restaurant facilities, had been provided by Carillion on behalf of TVH.
Responding to uncertainty about the future amid ongoing disputes with the PFI provider, TEWV EFM was established in late 2017 as part of a plan to ensure continuity of services at the hospital. As of this week, former Carillion employees have been offered employment with TEWV EFM.
In a statement on the Trust’s website, Chief Executive of TEWV, Colin Martin, says: “Our commitment to our service users, staff and visitors is our first priority. We have taken this course of action in order to ensure the best possible delivery of estates and facilities services at Roseberry Park Hospital.”
The Trust is unable to comment further due to ongoing legal proceedings: in March the Trust took its case to end the PFI contract to the High Court.
The 365-bed Roseberry Park Hospital opened in 2011 and cost £75m to build, but since hand-over has reported a series of defects that have resulted in the building being described as sub-standard and shoddily built. These include a defective roof, plumbing problems and concerns with the fire safety system.
