Dragon’s Den style bids invited for AI projects to address operational/infrastructure problems

NHSX is inviting Dragon’s Den-style pitches for innovative applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in health and care through its AI Lab skunkworks initiative.

AI skunkworks aims to apply AI technologies to genuine, real-life problems within the health and care system that have been difficult to resolve with non-AI solutions. Last summer, an initial round of events was open to projects from within NHSX, the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England and Improvement (NHSE/I). In this new round of events, projects are also invited from NHS Trusts, arm’s length bodies and public sector healthcare organisations.

AI Lab skunkworks is inviting teams/colleagues to come forward with a clearly defined problem statement or use case that meets a particular need within the health and care system. This does not have to be clinical. Giuseppe Sollazzo, Head of NHS AI Lab’s skunkworks says: “We are very interested in projects that have an impact on operational processes and infrastructure.”

The successful project will be funded and resourced.

Applications must be submitted by March 20, and applicants must be ready to attend the Dragon’s Den pitch on April 1. The winning project will run from April to August 2021.
