NHS Chief Sustainability Officer, Dr Nick Watts, told the HSJ’s Sustainability Forum last week that all NHS Trusts and ICSs will be required to develop net zero plans by April 2022.
The plans don’t have to be perfect, but they do need to start was the clear message he delivered, with suggestions including electrifying the transport fleet and carbon reduction schemes in travel, logistics and medicines as being easy targets.
HSJ reports Dr Watts as saying: “Within climate change we sometimes do a bad job of being tangible. But we’re now in the business of counting the carbon you have reduced day after day.”
