Upgrading face masks can dramatically impact Covid infections

A team at the University of Cambridge and Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust has published its findings on research into whether upgrading to filtering face piece 3 (FFP3) respirator face masks for staff working on COVID-19 wards has an impact on the rate of staff infections.

The results of the trial saw a dramatic fall – of upto 100% - in hospital-acquired SARS-CoV-2 infections among staff.

The research has not yet been peer-reviewed, but is being released anyway due to the urgent need to share information relating to the pandemic.
